EMC donation for seniors recognized
Eye Medical Center of Fresno is proud to have received a Certificate of Appreciation from Home Instead Senior Care for our participation in the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
EMC staff member Gillian Peacock spearheaded the donation efforts, and was able to collect 50 blankets, four games, several pairs of slippers, and some personal grooming supplies for local seniors. Donations came from Eye Medical Center staff members as well as our generous patients. Said Gillian, “My daughter and I help with the Alzheimer’s walk for the cure every year, and I collect donations for this from my co-workers as well.” It was through her work with the Alzheimer’s organization that Gillian was introduced to the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
This is the first year Eye Medical Center of Fresno has partnered with Home Instead Senior Care, which has been a trusted in-home care agency for over twenty years. Dedicated to improving and enhancing the lives of aging adults and their families, Home Instead Senior Care keeps seniors in their own homes by providing respite care through its network of locally owned franchise offices. The Be a Santa to a Senior program began in 2003 as a way to provide presents to aging adults who might otherwise not receive gifts during the Christmas holiday. Since the program’s creation, over 2 million gifts have been collected, wrapped, and distributed to 750,000 seniors nationwide.
This is a cause that is important to Gillian, who believes that, “What you put out into the world you will get back tenfold” — a sentiment that is shared by Eye Medical Center of Fresno. The center is proud to be able to give back to the community in a number of ways, from donations for seniors to our annual college scholarships aimed at local high school students.
